Tye Santiago’s story is one of courage, pain, and redemption. At just 19 years old, after only one consultation and a 24-hour wait, she was prescribed testosterone. By the age of 21, one doctor denied her request for a double mastectomy, but only two weeks later another doctor approved and performed a bilateral mastectomy. What followed was a journey of regret, reflection, and healing.
Tye courageously came forward to share her experience as a detransitioner — exposing the rushed medical decisions, the pressure she faced, and the deep impact it had on her life. Her testimony is raw, honest, and powerful, offering hope and perspective for those struggling with gender confusion and the culture surrounding it.
This conversation is especially meaningful because Tye was my very first interview for Spoken Like A Man. At the time, I was recording in a spare bedroom with a basic computer, a low-quality mic, and a webcam — far from the professional setup I have today. She went out on a limb, trusted me with her story, and gave me the chance to launch this podcast with purpose and conviction. For that, I am deeply grateful.
